List of fabrication work
The work of Liverpool steel fabricators Alexander Steel includes, but is not limited to:
- Gallows bracket – gallows brackets are used as a form of support to withstand the remaining load of something. A common use of gallows brackets is to support chimney breasts
- Hole – holes can be drilled within the web or on the flange for a number of different purposes
- Plate (bottom) – a plate is added to the bottom of the beam in order to support brickwork or timber joists.
- Plate (top) – a plate is added to the top of the beam when the required beam is smaller than the wall it is carrying. An example of this would be a cavity wall
- Splice – A splice is normally used for convenience when it comes to transport and erection.
- Cleat- both bolt and weld on cleats can be supplied
- End plate connection - used to connect the end of a beam to the wall and can also act as a connection between
- T Connection - a cleat is used to bolt or weld a steel section to another section. Cleats are made from angles and the
- Cap plate - a plate will be welded to the top of a beam or column
- Base Plate – base plates are used as a support for beams/columns sitting on a concrete pad or foundation.
- Gusset- a gusset is a triangular plate that helps provide additional stiffness.
- Tab – welded to sections to provide a wall anchor
- Stiffener - a stiffener provides additional stability by connecting both flanges and the web
- Kink- a kink can act as a support to follow the pitch of a roof, a 90° or used to join two pieces together that are of different sizes.
